All this does is take the overall productivity of the market and average it out per hour worked. It does not say that workers have been more productive. That would be the fallacy of composition. Productivity increases have occurred mainly due to improvements in technology, capital investments, supply chain efficiency increases and the widespread implementation of process improvement measures.
If my job in 1980 is to push a button to turn on a light bulb, I haven't become more productive just because my job in 2024 is to push the same button to turn on 10 lightbulbs.
