does anyone have any experience or thoughts on university of phoenix? i am going to be 2 credits short for my bs-technology at excelsior and they seem to be the fastest option i can find for 1 course.
They have a systems analysis course that will fit into the "computer technologies" area of focus. if you know of another project management, systems analysis and design, operating systems, or other closely related course that can be done in less than 6 weeks, please let me know.

What about a CLEP/DSST or TECEP? This link takes you to a list of them.

I was hoping to take the DSST Management Information Systems exam but that only counts as technical elective credit for the bs-technology-computer technologies degree.
Originally I was going to take a penn foster course, structured systems analysis for the 2 credits but a week before I called to register for the course, it lost its ACE recommendation. So that's why I'm in a bind now. I'm going to be done with my capstone in August but won't be done because of these 2 credits.

I didn't realize that Penn Foster lost ACE approval for that course. Was it just that course or all of the Penn Foster courses? Please double check. Call Penn Foster directlya nd check with them. it seems that alot of people that are getting these computer technolgy degrees use Penn Foster often.

It was a number of courses that they decided not to renew after 5/31/2011. And Penn Foster did confirm they have no plans on renewing that one and a few others I was looking at.
They said that what's on the ACE site is current and if it didn't get renewed after their review this year, that it won't be renewed. I did hear that they are looking at getting some that weren't reviewed before reviewed later this year that are part of their degree programs.

This is just not good news. What are you going to do now?

I received 2 Applied Science / Business credits from Excelsior for having a CompTIA A+ certification. That's fairly easy if you are computer savvy.
Maybe give that a shot?

I was going to say the same thing, if your missing credits are on the tech side just grab a cert or two. A+, Network+, Security+ and any MS ones are pretty easy and cheap (A+ takes two tests, the others only take one). Get an industry cert (or two) and your credits, good value!
When I first started with EC they recommended I drop my focus and do the general option IT degree, by doing so all of my tech electives were wiped out (I hold quite a few certs)... was a great deal for me, cut almost 2 semesters (full time) off my degree!

Although the certifications mentioned above are the best options, if you want a Systems Analysis course that is self-paced and is much less expensive than U Phoenix, look at Adams State College.

Thanks! Adams State is also on the table. I've already ordered the book in case I have to start it but they have a minimum 6 weeks for the course and they said the whole process could take a few weeks longer with testing and transcripting.
As for certs. Unfortunately, for the bs-technology, cert and related type credits that are product specific and only deal with maintenance, support, and troubleshooting are only counted as technical elective credit. For major's credit it has to have a broader conceptual/theoretical aspect of technology in general. Or at least that's how it's been explained to me because believe me, I've tried.
I just saw another post that there are some new penn foster courses after all, so I'm going to pour thru those in the hopes some are technical or electrical (which also counts). Even though it sounds they may just be business/cj realted for their new bachelor programs. Otherwise, I'll register for Adams when I get paid this Friday (if there's enough room on my credit card).
