We’ve been playing with the Academic Evaluation tabs on SUNY and TESU and so far have found that they both say she meets (or will after cornerstone) requirements for General Studies AA degrees. I guess I’m just trying to do a double check that she isn’t leaving anything on the table that would be an easy pick up.

Hey, just curious, are you set with TESU? The AA is an option, if she wants to take some business courses, she can get the ASBA as well. I would focus on the bachelor's and any additional associates or certificates, add them in if they don't take extra energy, money, time. Has GF tried applying to UMPI and see if those NA credits will come into say a BAS?

UMPI is the one that we didn’t submit to. Main reason for that is because besides Sophia, she has been use to semester based classes, and we’re sort of unsure how she would do with YourPace style classes. There was a point that we were planning the Spanish degree through TESU (we were getting really close to figuring out all of the required classes, hence the Poetry class she’s in), but she’s opting to speed it up a bit on the degree, and go CSET route to prove proficiency for California teaching credentials. Although, UMPI may be an interesting option if they accept her NA credits?

We’ll take a look at the ASBA and see what it would take. Can they be completed with Sophia? If so, she may have the energy to pull it off before classes start and energy gets focused there.

She has every course you need to graduate with a BALS, assuming she takes those UL courses at TESU, so I'm not sure why you'd want to get an AA in anything - obviously she can get the general AA, and nothing stopping her, but there's no reason to do so when the BA will supercede it.

Dumb question, but why would she only take 12cr at TESU, none of which is the cornerstone or capstone? So that she has to do another term in order to graduate?

Also, do you have an eval showing you where all of your BALS courses are slotted? I'm kind of curious as to the course equivalencies for some of these:

COMM-25, ARGUMENTATION
MATH 1000, College Math
OPIc: Spanish (Adv Mid)
RPT: Spanish (Adc Low)
WPT: Spanish (Adv Low)
LPT: Spanish (Adv Mid)
SPAN-41 Spanish Poetry
SPAN-2, HIGH-BEG SPANISH
SPAN 3010, Spanish for Health Care Professionals: Advanced

------------------------------------------------------------

As far as NA credits, TESU has never (and prob will never) give credit for those.

EU normally does give credit, so I'm wondering why they didn't give you credit? Did you ask? My guess is, since you already have a ton of credits, enough to do a degree except the UL, they didn't need to spend the time trying to convert hours into credits. But I'd ask.

Two reasons. Other than Spanish tests (ACTFL), she has a hard time with tests (especially proctored). Hence all of her credits have been ACTFL, actual classes, or Sophia (the open book has helped her A LOT). Second, it makes more sense financially. She still has a bit left on her financial aide, which pays out based on 6, 9, or 12 credits. So, SDC is out of pocket and she is nervous about it, so even if she pulled off the 4 classes there it would take 2-3 months anyway. This way she can follow the class assignments and be done in the same amount of time for same or less than the SDC subscriptions after Aide pays out.

SPAN-41 Spanish Poetry
SPAN-2, HIGH-BEG SPANISH
SPAN 3010, Spanish for Health Care Professionals: Advanced
COMM-25 = COM-209 (3LL) (they counted it in the Oral communication requirement)
MATH 1000 = MAT-102 (4LL) (it’s below the line. They used Sophia for the math requirement)
OPI = SPA-110 (3LL), SPA-111 (3LL), SPA-310 (3UL)
RPT = SPA-130 (3LL)
WPT = SPA-132 (3LL), SPA-133 (3LL), SPA-335 (2UL)
LPT = SPA-120 (3LL), SPA-121 (3LL)
(I pulled the course numbers off of the transfer transcript, where it doesn’t show which test is which transfer, but those are all the course numbers and they should be right. Her Spanish credits are all over the evaluation. UL for humanities, other AOS, free electives, maybe even below the line.)
SPAN-41 = we won’t know the course number for sure until she finishes and sends it, but it was approved as a 200 level that meets major writers in Spanish if she went for the Spanish degree.
SPAN-2 = SPA-102 (5LL)
SPAN 3010 = SPA-399 (4UL) (UL for Humanities)

Hope that helps.

EU claimed they were certificate level and not college level. They were also more stingy with the ACE credits than SUNY, TESU, and Pierpont.

Oh well, skip Excelsior then, you've got good options with TESU and UMPI already... Did you send anything or apply to UMPI yet? Any other schools besides the ones mentioned above? You essentially need to know which degree/school you end up with and complete the remaining requirements through them. Don't try to salvage the credits, you want to see who you can finish cheaper, easier, faster with and not dwell on previous credits.

UMPI will accept financial aid. UMPI is based on an 8 week session. It's not structured like a semester. If she's doing Sophia classes on her own timeline, that's pretty much the same as UMPI. You just have to watch the last date to submit drafts and last last day to submit the Final Assessment. Very few classes at UMPI have exams. Most are papers or projects.
