Hey everyone, I'm new to the CLEP scene and I was confused about which CLEP I should be preparing for. I finished English Composition 1 in community college, and I need the credit for Comp 2 so that I can attend a new university. I signed up with InstantCert so that I could begin studying, but I notice that it has an option for "College Composition" and for "English Composition." Both of them have "(6 cr)" right next to them, but the latter also says, "(Helpful for Freshman College Composition!)." I was originally only studying the "English Composition" materials/flash cards, but it's very basic stuff so I'm starting to wonder if I should instead be studying the "College Composition" section?
All of that said, I'm really confused as to what I'm supposed to be studying here, and which CLEP I'll even need to take to fulfill the English Comp 2 requirements.
If any of you have any advice and/or are familiar with InstantCert and their study materials, I'd very much appreciate any help you can spare.
Thanks in advance.

English Comp no longer exists as a test.
Before you take the College Comp exam, you need to make sure that your university accepts that particular CLEP exam, and that it will give you credit for English Comp 2 when you take it. There are also different versions, and you need to see what they want. There is College Comp Modular, which should probably only count for English Comp 1 (or maybe not at all) and then there's College Composition with or without the Essay, and you need to see if they require the essay (again, if they accept the exam).

As stated above, it is imperative you discuss with your Academic Advisor if a particular CLEP or DSST will fulfil a particular degree requirement.
For example, I am pretty confident my college, Excelsior, would not accept anything but their ENG COMP II to fulfill my degree requirements. If they do, my mistake. I needed to take 12 credits through them, anyway.
Do you need ENG COMP 2 prior to attending a new university? Is that a condition of acceptance?
You really don't want to waste your time if the university isn't going to accept it, or other CLEPS/DSSTs.

Excelsior will not accept the College Composition CLEP, but they will accept Straighterline English Comp II or their own exam. SL is much cheaper.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I would have replied sooner, but I still hadn't heard back from my advisor.
I'm happy to say that I apparently only need to take the College Composition Modular exam and that there will be no essays involved -- just multiple choice questions. I was sweating that quite a bit because I haven't done any formal writing in years and I wasn't sure if InstantCert would prepare me well enough for that.
In light of this, do you guys think I'll only need to study the "English Composition" section at InstantCert? Or if you know of any resources that are better suited for preparing for this particular exam, I'd really appreciate the advice.
Thanks again!
