Algebra Course Recommendation

I am looking for recommendations for completing an Algebra course for college credit within 3 weeks. I'm looking at Study.com and noticed people have used them on this forum. I am wondering if someone could give me their perspective on the course and would they recommend it to someone who has been out of school for almost 20 years versus another course like propero or jumpcourse or ?????

There are a few ACE providers I recommend, StraighterLine, Study.com and Saylor, Shmoop. If you or your school of choice accepts NCCRS credits, then add Davar to that mix. In terms of "easy", for math classes, Shmoop are non-proctored.

For Study.com and StraighterLine, the majority of the courses, the final are only worth 30% for SL and for Study.com, 33-66% (depending on classes that have assignments/projects). For Davar/Saylor, the majority of the courses are a pass/fail final exam. And for all of these providers, in order to get a pass, you need 70% or higher.

Thanks for the reply bjcheung77. The school I am attending accepts any courses that are ACE providers. In the past, all of my courses have been through SL, with the exception one, which was through propero. I have been looking at Schmoop and Study.com, but could not figure out which one would be the "easiest" to complete in order for me to meet the Jan deadline. Do you, or anyone, has taken the shmoop or study.com algebra 1 course can provide more insight?

Since you mentioned SL, I actually took their Algebra course. I have completed all the modules/test, except for the final and I have a 72%. I am worried since according to what I read and maybe I read it wrong, but the final accounts for 50% of the grade and I am not allowed to use a calculator. Does anyone know what I will need to make on my SL final to come out of the class with a 70%?

You should be able to bump up that score higher, with that first exam done. What do you have for each of the 4 exams? The final is 50%, each of the 4 exams is 12.5% I would find out what your lowest score is, then work on those sections. Review the others.

I would say that if you take the final and don't pass the course, that you're probably better off either retaking it through SL, or taking it through Study.com.

Another option you have: try the Saylor exam.  It's worth $25, and it might be easier than retaking the SL course.  Another testing option: CLEP.  Remember that you only need about 50% to pass a CLEP exam, which is a much lower bar than the 70% required for Saylor, TECEP, SL, etc.

I'd recommend Sophia.org. I finished their Statistics course a few weeks ago and I highly recommend it for non-math types. I'd imagine that their Algebra course is on-par with it. 

That being said, it took me a few months to complete due to life getting in the way. Whereas the Study.com course would have probably taken me even longer. Have you looked into Aleks?

I was originally doing Aleks and didn't know they lost it before I realized it and have been hoping they will get their accreditation back. Does anyone know or heard if they will get their accreditation back and if so, when?

I can't say for sure, but I'm pretty sure they won't be getting it back.
