Advice on TESU BA CS as a 2nd degree
#1
Hello! i'm asking on behalf of someone else who's got a degree in business, and is interested to attain a CS degree. I've spoke to him about TESU (its very new to him), I understand you'll need 24 credits in the major for a 2nd degree as per what TESU says in their catalog

Quote:Students who have received one baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution and wish to earn a second baccalaureate degree must:

  • Complete a minimum of 24 credits including the required capstone for the degree. These credits must be in the area of study and/or core of the degree. These credits must be earned after the date the most recent degree, regardless of academic level, was conferred.

  • Additionally, students must complete all other degree requirements as listed in the current Thomas Edison State University Catalog.

https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/award-of-degrees

So my questions are as follows.

1) Can all 24 credits be done via study.com ? I've check the study.com TESU transfer page and seems like all the major courses for CS are offered.

https://study.com/college/school/thomas-...rsity.html

2) Once study.com courses are transfered into TESU, how will they 'look like' on the transcripts? Eg, will there be a GPA? Reason for this is in view of the future, my friend has intentions of applying into graduate school

3) How does this whole process work? Register/pay/complete all the study.com courses first? then apply into TESU? or do both at the same time?

4) How long does study.com 'keep' your courses? Like can you complete 1 course then just leave it there and come back to do a 2nd course few months later?

5) Are there any other sources for CS credits that are cheaper?

Thank You!

1) All courses can be completed through Study.com except that you need a TECEP exam (Network Technology) to get the final 3cr UL.

2) There will be no GPA, except for the Capstone course

3) I would apply to TESU and get the degree plan/eval done first and lock in the catalog; if you can complete a Study.com course right away to get the affiliate discount before July 1, then I'd do that as well (I would do COMPSCI 109: Intro to Programming and COMPSCI 105: Intro to Operating Systems) so that you can lock in the pricing ($379/cr).

4) Study.com keeps your courses forever, although as you complete them, I'd send them to TESU and the ACE transcript.  The $199/mo fee includes 2 courses (final exams for credit) so I probably woudn't do just 1 course a month, since you're paying for 2.

I'd probably also look into the WGU degree.

I would also apply to WGU (it's free!) and sent the transciprts from the first degree just to see close they are.

I would also apply to TESU now and send all the transcripts from the first degree.

Do both of these things ASAP.

I would suggest your friend join the forum so he can ask questions. It's much easier than going back and forth communicating the info and trying to remember questions. Even if he just reads through a bunch of the posts, he'll gain a great deal of knowledge. I read post after post for a few weeks before I joined.
