Hello all. So, basically to sum this up as best as I can, I have nearly 40 credits, general education. However the past two semesters I have completely ruined due to the school falsely advertising competency based when it’s actually “write essays on every single sentence in every textbook for the heck of it”. I’m a new father, and I underestimated how difficult it would be to do all the things
So, I discovered Sophia, I can do well on that, but my problem is I have four F’s from the aforementioned school. I’m not going to attend there anymore but I absolutely must finish a bachelors degree in IT or computer science as soon as possible(or anything that pays better than working in an ambulance lol). Do I just do an academic fresh start and take 90 some odd credits at Sophia? Do I try to transfer somewhere with those horrible looking F’s? I’m lost, and this seems to have a wonderful community here so I’m hopeful someone can guide me a bit. Thank you

Think what you will be happy doing for many year's on the future, then study for it. Do not just look what pays more now. Probably if you don't like it you will be wasting time.
You commented that you are riding an ambulance, if you are interested in healthcare you can try to get a BSN. A nursing degree can be done at exelsior college if I am not wrong. Maybe in another place too... Sentinel?
First you should have clear where to go and while you think you can start doing credits at Sophia.
Also think with an associate degree for free. The credits you have are from a RA institution ?
Check around the forum for the associte for free.

Oh yes, I’ I’ve been a tech lover since childhood. But I like many things so that’s why I said I’m open to anything lol. Been an EMT On the ambulance for 11 years, it’s not a good job here. 96 hour weeks, $13/usd an hour. I’m burnt out on healthcare, no interest in it after 11 years
Yeah the credits I have are RA, but they’re tied in with the four F’s unless I clear it and start fresh

Seems like you are talking about Purdue Global, right?

Purdue Global and TESU are the only schools with especially cheap CS or IT degrees. Unfortunately, TESU is making "secret" (it hasn't been announced publically yet) changes on January 1st that mean you won't be able to complete the degree as easily or as cheaply as before. If you list out what credits you already have, we can help you to figure out your best course of action.
You aren't going to be able to erase those F grades unless you retake those exact courses from that exact school, but it may not matter much depending on what they are and what you do going forward.
Actually, Excelsior COULD be an option for an IT degree. With TESU's changes, it might work out to be about the same price. But, again, it depends on what you've already done.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA
Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

We do not. However, you can cross reference this PDF which shows the structure of an IT degree: https://www.excelsior.edu/wp-content/upl...5_2021.pdf
With this one that shows how to meet the requirements for a Criminal Justice degree from Study.com: https://www.excelsior.edu/wp-content/upl...5_2021.pdf
Plus https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List for meeting the gen ed requirements, at the very least, with Sophia.
Finally, the SDC -> EC transfer page here: https://study.com/college/school/excelsior-college.html
I think that there are 9 to 11 courses that you wind up having to take at EC (not counting the capstone/cornerstone/info lit). That's 27-33 credits + 7 for the required ones or 34-40 total credits.
Cost per credit at EC is $410 (with partner discount) tuition + $28 Academic Service Fee + $20 Technology fee = $458
Total cost for all credits, $15k-$18k plus whatever SDC/Sophia costs.
Contrast with TESU:
Two flat-rate terms are $4639 each * 2 = $9,278. Assuming you took 12 credits per term, that gets you to 24 credits (capstone, cornerstone, 6 required classes). No residency waiver. But you still need another 6 RA credits for an additional $300-$400 (via TEL or ONU) to bring the total up to 30 RA credits.
If you do an IT degree at TESU, you need physics or chemistry and that may cost more. You might also need a third flat-rate term for IT because (without actually looking) it appears that there might be more than 6 classes that aren't available at SDC. That brings the cost of an IT degree from TESU to potentially around $14k + SDC/Sophia costs.

How about a BSBA-CIS from TESU? https://www.tesu.edu/business/bsba/compu...on-systems
Are you in the US - would WGU work for you?
If you already have experience but need that degree them maybe UMPI 'Bachelor of Liberal Studies - Management Information Systems Minor'
Also it is correct, you can't hide those F's - no matter where you end up will require all your transcripts from all previous schools prior to graduating. And as stated, for the most part they make no difference in your ability to 'get it done' - so take the credits for the courses you did pass.
Amberton - MSHRB
TESU - ASNSM/BSBA

Forgot about a couple others. First, Peirce. They have Technology Management for $11k + SDC/Sophia or an IT degree for $20k + SDC/Sophia. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...ee_Roadmap
Then there is NAU. They are competency-based and they have an IT degree. But they accept almost no transfer credits. They do claim to accept ACE credits, but (at best) they really only accept SOME CLEP exams. https://nau.edu/online-innovative-educat...e-degrees/ They appear to have removed their tuition info from the site, but it was $3000 per 6 months when it was last available. They do have this page: https://nau.edu/paying-for-college/tuition-and-fees/ but it's unclear if the "Online Tuition" is the estimate for the per-credit degrees or for the competency-based programs.
If you are IN THE USA (some Canadians MAY be able to attend ASU), there is also WGU. That is competency-based and they do allow up to 90 credits in transfer. But they don't have many gen eds (so what you've already completed may not fully transfer). We do have degree plans for different WGU IT-based degrees on the wiki here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:WGU
