While researching APA sample research papers for someone else I finally located the current file available on the APA website. Take a look at the pg 22 of the first sample, it includes footnotes.

Thanks so much!!! I think I am getting better slowly but surely... My program is online, but it's part of a B&M University. They have an APA workshop on campus this weekend so I am going to sacrifice my Saturday morning to go have any outstanding questions answered.

Ha ha ha I can't think of anything more boring to do on a weekend, but it will hopefully save me a lot of time and frustration on my more difficult questions in the long run.

Bric, Thanks for the great link! I have had a time lately with one of my grad school teachers not using an updated APA resource and taking off points. I will surely be directing her to this site for future reference.

@burbuja0512 - Actually, that workshop sounds like fun to me! I like writing; probably have about ten or so writing/research and style books.

@marianne - I know that burns! I would definitely refer her to the APA guidelines. Do you still have the same instructor? I would send her the link/pdf and innocently ask if she is using APA 5th or 6th Ed as a guide to write papers in her course. She may still have the last edition in mind although the update was two years ago. From all the negative reviews I understand there was a ton of mistakes in the first printing. (Gotta love those publishers rushing to the pre$$es.) That may be the text she is using. The manual is currently on its fifth print incorporating the changes/corrections.

I've only had one issue with a SL grader. (I think I read somewhere on the forum they use smarthinking tutors to grade their papers.) Whoever graded my final report dinged me for the running header. Imagine something so basic in an APA paper. I did not care because it was still an A paper (and only SL) but it stung nonetheless. Idiots.

APA does not recommend the use of footnotes and endnotes because they are often expensive for publishers to reproduce. However, if explanatory notes still prove necessary to your document, APA details the use of two types of footnotes: content and copyright.

A while back, Noodle Tools was recommended and I use that one to plug my references in and have the citation generated. I'm sure that there's probably more functionality to it so I'll also have to check it out.

Yes go back and sign up again for noodle tools, (you told me about it!!) also the purdue owl for anything advanced is a great site. Noodle tools has most of what you need, but some things you just need to look up.

For instance on my case study final paper, I had something that was landscape, so in APA you set the page as portrait and rotate whatever it is thats landscape, not just change one page to landscape, if that makes sense. Thats one I had to go back and check.
