ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPIc): Advanced High/Superior
#11
Nightmoves5 Wrote:@Videogamesrock:

Hi! Have you taken the German OPI already and do you know if it overlaps with the German CLEP for TESU? I scored an 80 on the German CLEP (=9 credits) and want to take the OPI for another 6 credits if they don't overlap.

Also, how much did you pay? I contacted LTI and they wrote that the test is $139 and converting it to college credit would cost an 'ACE College Credit Fees' of $75. Has anyone ever heard of this before?

Thanks in advance!

I have not taken it yet and I do suspect it may overlap.. The good news is they have quite a few options where you can rack up a bunch of German credits whether or not they overlap for cheap.

I found this link on their site

https://tms.languagetesting.com/Individu...e.aspx#nbb

Click no on teacher certification.

Choose German

Click can't find my institution then continue

There is a reading and listening test for $30 each

ACTFL Listening Test

ACTFL Reading Test

for a total of 12 LL credits (6 each)

ACTFL OPIc is the computerized version and it is only $70 up to 12 credits total of which 6 are UL.
But for a total of $130 to max out at 24 German credits is totally worth it, even if 9 overlap. There is also another 12 credits in writing if you are near one of their writing centers.

You can also take these over again if you didn't score as high as you anticipated.

I was actually well on my way to doing this refreshing with Duolingo until something else came up. I'm hoping to do the $30 ones next month.

Does anyone know if TESU accepts the German OPI credits (which are ACE approved)?

They are converted to ACE credits by Language Testing International, the ACE fees are paid directly to LTI.

I just completed the Listening Proficiency in German test. It took almost 2 hours to complete and about an hour into it I did my usual zone out routine. The dialogue had become progressively more challenging with each interview. The system lets you listen to an interview between a reporter and a guest. As the test progresses the vocabulary used also progresses. Towards the end they were interviewing doctors and discussion medical and social issues. During the dialogue you can take notes with an online notepad. You then are directed to a 3 question multiple choice test which asks questions about the the interview. There are a total of 25 interviews to listen to and 3 questions per interview test.

I finished with Intermediate High which is good for 3 ACE credits. The only way I think I can score higher is to have a daily conversation with someone at a college educated level or watch German news programs.

Was this done online like the Oral Proficiency Interview? Was it $115.

Are you going to take the OPI portion as well?

Sorry, I didn't read through the entire thread for this. But please let me know how it worked anyway!

Yes, it is all online with ProctorU for $20. The test was $30 through ACTFL. I think OPI is an option but I need to review a lot.

I just started Duolingo again just to get my brain working and it seems like nominative, dative, accusative, and genitive need a review too before I attempt it. I keep attempting practice exams which I'm scoring 65%. I'm pretty sure there is flexibility but computers are data specific, so I just need a review.

I do wonder what TESU would bring all of these in as. I'm not certain if the listening would be different than the reading, and how those would compare to the oral? It seems like they might all fall under the heading of German I/II/III/IV etc. In which case it would probably be better to just do the oral, in the hopes of scoring high and getting the maximum amount of credits.

It is nice to have the option of taking these from home though, and the price is nice. $50 for 3cr isn't too bad! If it was the same price for reading, and someone was better at reading than listening (I am), it's nice to have those options too.

Do you think that if someone is completely bilingual, that it would be easy to get a high score on this?

If you speak at a native college level German then high superior would be easy. It was a lot more difficult than I expected.

I don't know how TESU would consider reading and comprehension. But as you advance with German, your courses are more reading and listening comprehension. If you pass both you could argue for getting credit on the intermediate level Ger 3/4. I'll attempt reading next, which I suspect should be challenging too.

The course posted on my ACE transcript today. They will try to sell you a $70 service for them to set up your ACE transcript. No need, just request through the ACE portal.

It is nice that this option is available using ProctorU. Now anybody fluent in other languages can take advantage of this.
