Let's say I want to transcribe the credits via community college for $65 a credit. How will excelsior apply these credits? Does that mean I wouldn't have to take and pass the general cleps by completing 20-25 fema credits? I've read the various posts about credit banking at tesc, but even at $65 a credit that is still cheaper than the community colleges around where I live. My other question is how do I find out an exact degree outline? Like for an example I want the bachelor of science in criminal justice from excelsior. How do I find out what Clep/DSST/ECE/FEMA will take the place of traditional classes? Is there degree outlines listed on excelsior for specific degree majors?
Best Regards

In answer to your first question, I believe Excelsior will apply the FEMA credits to fulfill electives. To the best of my knowledge, FEMA credits will not satisfy general education requirements.
To find a degree outline, you will need to download the Liberal Arts catalog from the Excelsior website. To do this, you have to create a username on the website. Don't worry, it's free and you don't have to enroll when you do this. To find the Liberal Arts Catalog, you will need to find the link that says Excelsior College Publications request. This link will take you to a page where you can download PDFs of any free documents from Excelsior.
Inside of the Liberal Arts catalog, you should find the general requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree. In the Areas of Study section, you will be able to find the core requirements for Criminal Justice.
You should also download the Student Guide to Credit by Examination. This will list all Excelsior College Exams, CLEPS, and DSST exams and the required score to get credit.
Good luck,

Yep....SimonTam is right. FEMA credits cannot be counted towards General Education requirements...only towards free electives, etc. I just called Excelsior and checked up on this last week.
I have to earn about 29 credits in General Ed reqmnts and will be taking a combination of CLEP, DANTES and ECE exams to do this...with the help of advice from this awesome forum:-)
Hope that helps.
