Here is a PhD in global leadership from a state school out my way. I believe they have nixed the international internship requirement.

They still require an internship. This is degree plan for 2021-2022. Would be really tough for many people who are working while doing school to complete an internship. I can't think of another doctorate I've seen with an internship requirement. Out of state tuition is $1,100 per credit. Ouch! 63 credits x $1,100 = $69,300. Wowee.

The last few times I talked to a program coordinator they weren't requiring it. This is a pretty new program I think the first cohort is finishing this spring. That being said, they are still considering the feasibility of an international internship for their target population.
Most of the distance Doctorate programs I'm looking at require an internship/service project so it probably just depends on the program.
