I believe schools should be able to do what they want with their own money; I just avoid them. But, University of the Cumberlands receives federal financial aid and millions from the State of Kentucky. The expulsion happened in 2006, but in 2016, University of the Cumberlands got a waiver that allows them to continue to discriminate against LGBTQ students and still receive federal financial aid. If you're not going to follow federal laws, then you shouldn't receive federal funds. There are gay people paying taxes that go to that school.

This is an interesting point. Schools(primary, secondary and post secondary) that are religious in nature sometimes receive federal money. This is something I will have to look more closely at.

I should say that University of the Cumberlands used to receive money from Kentucky (they still receive money from the federal government). In 2010, the Kentucky Supreme Court ruled that giving money to religious schools was unconstitutional. University of the Cumberlands was about to receive $10 million to build a pharmacy school.

Btw, I didn't mean that as any kind of anti religion comment. I merely meant that if an institution discriminates(for example against gay people) in a way like that, with religious beliefs as their reason, but is allowed to receive federal money, then that would seem to be a problem.

I have no problem with religious schools receiving government funding if it's for the greater common good. University of the Cumberlands was going to receive money from Kentucky because they needed more pharmacists. However, it's not for the greater common good if certain groups of people aren't able to partake in it.

Agreed sanantone. It's the discrimination that bothers me most.

There are emails of Jerry making disparaging comments about students and employees.

A small group of students protested last Friday.
