1. No book should be banned.
2. Librarians should never be subjected to the whims of mob rule.

But Missouri legislators passed a law in 2022 punishing librarians with fines and possible imprisonment for permitting sexually explicit materials on bookshelves.
It's about protecting kids and parental rights. That's why those laws were passed.

That quote in context:
Quote:An illustrated edition of Margaret Atwood’s book The Handmaid’s Tale was released in 2019. The book is widely considered a classic work about the oppression of women. An illustrated version of the book would help it reach teens who struggle with words alone.
Educators in Clayton, Missouri, needed little debate before deciding to keep copies of the book in high school libraries.
But Missouri legislators passed a law in 2022 punishing librarians with fines and possible imprisonment for permitting sexually explicit materials on bookshelves. The school system reconsidered the new Atwood edition and later removed it from libraries.
I read the class copy of The Handmaid's Tale in elementary school. Grade 5. Circa 1990. Public school, gifted class, Canada.
A reasonable threshold for "sexually explicit material" for a public high school library nearly 35 years later should not bar this acclaimed and classic novel of ideas.

Since when did the left side care about freedom of speech?

Many people on the left, center, and right care about freedom of speech. The ACLU, although stereotypically popular with liberals, regularly advocates for free-speech causes whose positions are unpopular with liberals including Rush Limbaugh, Chick-fil-A, the Tea Party, and the Washington Redskins.

Censorship is never a reasonable policy. If you dont like a book, then dont read it. Simple as that.

Nothing stops parents from going out and buying whatever book they want or going to their city library.
If they want to read P to their children, go ahead.

It’s always “think of the children” except when it’s about:
* giving access to health care
* making sure they’re fed
* prevent from being shot in school & other such initiatives.
But let’s overlook that most books on the restrict & punish lists are by authors of color, women & LGBTQ+ authors. To the point that they’ve to amend in order to unblock the Bible

It's about protecting kids and parental rights. That's why those laws were passed. Parents have the obligation to parent regardless of what books are on the shelves.
That that I think of my self as a conservative is irrelevant but; I see this attack on free thought as a misguided "dog whistle" strategy with the purpose of creating more cultural animosity to further divide us.
No book should ever be banned. Opposing arguments or discussions of why a thought is wrong should be welcome.
The whims of mob rule are never creative.

So then you are for allowing 2nd and 3rd graders to read Playboy magazines in school? Where is the line if there is no line?
You won't define a line because then you will realize how rediculous your position is.
