2018 Best for Veterans Colleges: 2y, 4y, Online, Nontraditional, and Technical
 
The Military Times Best Colleges is the most accurate Veteran Colleges list that I know of.  Who did and did NOT  the make the list is key.  I know a ton of bad colleges for military Veterans, and they are not on the list.  The real weak list is 4-Year Schools.  I am not that impressed with any of them.

Excelsior College made #4 under Online & Nontraditional Schools
 
Fayetteville Technical & Community College #3 for Career and Technical Colleges
 
Clackamas Community College #4 for 2-Year Schools
 
Vincennes University #6 for 2-Year Schools
 
Coastline Community College #13 for Online & Nontraditional Schools

APUS came in 7th, I would recommend them as they're a very good school to get UL credits for a TESU degree or even if someone wanted to finish their degree at APUS, they're somewhat affordable.

Brandman came in 14th, I think this school is the only one that provides a "competency based education" from the list provided, I haven't checked the rest... but their competency tuition is one of the cheapest, or at least on par with WGU.

Grantham came in 16th, this is the only Nationally Accredited school on the list. This shows that the school is somewhat on par with the Regionally Accredited schools, it's a great school for ABET accredited degrees as it's all done online/virtual.

I took a CC class on Camp Pendleton, and there were a lot of schools advertising there. Many were extremely expensive. But for whatever reason, they were considered "military friendly." By the military I guess. I did not see anything there that would make me recommend them to anyone, military or not.

Just about any college can advertise on military bases. University of Phoenix was suspended for a short period because they were targeting veterans with brain damage. I made a thread on colleges paying for spots on lists of military-friendly colleges.

It's been just about 3 years now that the DEAC changes it's name from DETC. It's weird that a current article that did this much research to compile this list is still using a three year old term.

Excelsior College let me transfer in 116 of the 120 credits and my BS in HSEM was free for me, but cost the VA about $3,250.00.  EC was also way more generous in all my government ACE credits than TESU and COSC was. 
 
Fayetteville Technical & Community College only requires 3 SH for a certificate from them  I just did my first class and first certificate.  I transferred in the rest.  Since 2010, they are the main CC for the Army Specials Forces JFK school and others.  Giving them 46 credits that transfer as a block AA degree (they take FTCC 16 SH) to about 20 other universities now including Excelsior College.  They are $$ for out-of-state students but did just join the Yellow Ribbon program (how I am taking them).  My first class was online and I finished in two weeks as Blackboard let me just keep going.  That was neat.  The downside to FTCC is they hate quarter hours and give me ZERO for them.
 
Clackamas Community College has a great and easy Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) program.  Some Oregon colleges hate Veterans.  Clackamas is an exception.  
 
Vincennes University only requires 6 SH from the military student for an AA degree.  Not as generous in their BS programs.
 
Coastline Community College requires only 12 SH, but then you can graduate will all degrees at the same time that you qualify for.  I think I might have 8 AA degrees and 3 certificates after getting 12 SH in one term.  That is a crazy cool feature.  They are on my to do list.

I have taken AMU courses (APUS) but they are not any better than any other college that I can tell.

I emailed 3 people at Brandman for a syllabus on a few courses in one of their degree programs and ZERO replies.

The military has always hated NA colleges.  I think deep down they still do.  I still find things saying an RA degree needed.

I agree and that's why I can talk only about a short list of them.  They were all on this list.
