college composition clep
#1
Hey y'all,

Does anybody have any suggestions for College composition CLEP? I can't find hardly any posts in here, except for the specific feedback, which isn't a lot.

I took the first Petersons and scored 88% with practically no studying. I bounced around through all the IC cards and got bored since I wasn't getting anything wrong.

The only part I'm worried about is knowing the questions on citing and then of course writing the essays.

There were some good suggestions on my citation question from the other day:

http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...ethod.html

Like you, my strength was the multiple choice section on two Petersons tests, so I spent the rest of my time practicing essays which is where I really needed the most help.

I think practicing some essays in advance definitely helped, but that portion of the test was still very painful for me. As mentioned in the thread above, you just get through it and then move on to the next test while you wait for the results.

BTW, try that fast food essay guide (SAT essays) on sparknotes for help with the first opinion essay. I think that's a good read and really drives home some good points.

Thanks keithk! I will try practicing writing essays. The sat page looks awesome though, great things to keep in mind on test day! I'm still thinking this is one of those tests that you just have to take it and can't prep too much. Smile

I'm not too concerned about the essays since in high school I went through Jensen's format writing, which drilled those 5 paragraph essays into you. But I never did a time crunch like this.

It sounds like it should be a relative breeze if you aren't too worried about the essays. You're well ahead of me! Not that I know yet if I passed or not, but I think it turned out ok (I hope).

I bet you'll do very well...I myself hadn't written an essay in over 15 yrs and those cobwebs were quite visible in my work Smile

Good luck!

:iagree: with Keith, practice writing essays from a prompt under a time constraint. I used a 30 min. time constraint. I also came in with a strategy that worked for me. Here's my strategy, but be sure to find out what works for you:

1. Disagree with whatever position the prompt takes on an issue. I found it easier to refute most prompts than to agree with them, so I decided that whatever prompt I was given, I would disagree with. This may or may not work for you.

2. Quickly think of 5-6 evidences for your position. Why 5-6 when you only need three main points? I found that the remaining points could easily be used as "clincher" lines in the concluding paragraph. This made it easier for me to write a strong ending without a lot of extra time needed to think.

3. Write the essay (fast)Wink

Good luck!
