AACSB Certified Online Business School?

Hi Everyone,

Happy Wednesday! First time posting here, and hoping that you all might be able to assist me. 

I'm currently searching for an AACSB accredited online business school. I've used the search function on the forum, but I've come up empty handed so far. There are some other accreditations out there (ACBSP being one of them), but I specifically need AACSB.

The reason why I'm needing this specific accreditation is because I'm planning on attending a university after getting some of my schooling done online, and the university I'm going to be attending is AACSB certified. If I attend an online program without this certification, some of my credits may not transfer over, and I'll have to retake the same classes over again.

For reference, I'm planning on either getting a bachelor's degree in marketing or finance - undecided as of yet. I'm 28 years old, and currently living in Portland, Maine. Cost is not a huge concern, as long as the program is self paced and has the accreditation I'm seeking. 

Any assistance you all can provide is greatly appreciated! I'm super excited to finally be moving forward on this, as I've put off going to school for a long time : )

Is there a reason you need AACSB? Just because a college has a certain business accreditation does not mean that the credits will be accepted by another university as every university has their own policies when it comes to transfer credit. You live in Maine so UMPI would be a great choice but it's not AACSB. Most people do not need a degree with an AACSB accreditation.

Just to avoid confusion over terminology, you're looking for an AACSB-accredited business school or program. Specialized accreditation is not certification.

I'm not sure if there are any AACSB-accredited, self-paced, undergraduate programs.

Get Educated notes if the program has programmatic accreditation next to the degree title.

I found one competency-based program that's AACSB-accredited. That's the term you want to use in your search: competency-based. That's what most self-paced programs are called now.

The OP is looking to transfer credits to a specific school, for some reason. So, I imagine there has to be some advantage to doing the first years online at a different school.

UW Flexible Option allows up to 90 transfer credits, but I'm not sure how valuable this is since it doesn't sound like OP wants to complete their degree anywhere else. Plus, UW Flexible Option does not offer a marketing or finance concentration. They only offer business analytics as a concentration.

The OP is looking to transfer credits to a specific school, for some reason. So, I imagine there has to be some advantage to doing the first years online at a different school.

I'm not sure what the exact situation is for the OP. Do they plan to attend college out of state and want to save as much money as possible before paying out-of-state tuition plus room and board? Typically, flagship-type colleges limit CLEP transfers if they allow them at all and may also limit transfer credits from other colleges.

'Self-paced' usually refers to credit-by-exam (CBE), but online courses can also be somewhat self-paced, though they typically have deadlines for things like forum posts and papers. (It helps if you can work ahead.)

That's one of my pet peeves. LOL. I hate when schools call their courses self-paced just because they're asynchronous. If there are deadlines every week or every other week, it is not self-paced. 

CBE (competency-based education) programs are self-paced and allow for acceleration. Correspondence courses, which are getting harder to find, are usually self-paced. Central Texas College offers self-paced courses; the deadline for all assignments is at the end of the term. This is more for people wanting flexibility than acceleration.

CBE is not credit by exam. CBE commonly refers to competency based education. That's how many colleges utilize the acronym CBE. CBE programs are in fact self paced. UMPI and WGU are examples of CBE programs. There are not credit by exam programs. UMPI doesn't even have exams.
