Hello everyone!
I applied to UMPI and just got my acceptance email to begin during Fall session 2
Can anyone share the maximum amount of credits they have achieved in one month through SOphia? (I started Sept 16th and have 2 courses finished so far)
I am not sure I will be able to get to the 90 credits through Sophia before the Fall session begins.
Also, if I defer my acceptance to begin in Spring, will UMPI still review my transcripts so I know what i'm doing, and what electives I can take to fulfill their requirements?
I am currently taking Bio lab and visual communications. I believe I will need to take intro to ethics to complete all the Gen EDs, and a bunch of electives to get to 90 credits or more.
Here is what I have so far, updated courses in red
Your Location: Cailfornia, United States.
Your Age: 45
What kind of degree do you want?: BLS Educational Studies Minor
Current Regional Accredited Credits: I have an associate degree on behavioral sciences From Pasadena City college in CA
These are the equivalencies for transfer to UMPI towards general Ed:
Subject - credits - grade
ENG 101 3 credits A
ENG 121 3 credits A
POS 101 3 credits B
PSY 100 3 credits B
SOC 100 3 credits A
ART 107 3 credits B
MAT 117 3 credits B
ANT 100 3 credits A
HTY 161 3 credits C
SOPHIA COURSES
Human Biology 95%
Enviromental Sciences 88%
I also have the next that I'm not sure would transfer as electives from my community college
SPEECH 10 3 credits B
PSYCH 21 3 credits B
ITALN 1 5 credits B
GEOG 1 3 credits A
HED (health ed) 3 credits A
PEACT 39B 1 credit A
CHDV 10 3 credits A (these child development courses don't show up on equivalency website)
CHDV 15 3 credits B
CHDV 117 3 credits C
CHDV 120 3 credits A
From CAL State LA (started courses for Legal interpretation and translation)
ML790A 5 credits A
ML 790B 5 credits B
Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: CLEP Spanish 80
Any certifications or military experience? no
Budget: The lower the better
Commitments: Stay at home mother of 2 school age children, and wife (husband works from home)
Dedicated time to study: Most weekday mornings and some evenings after kids in bed (around 4 hr)
Timeline: ASAP
Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None
I'm a married mother of 2 kids in school, live in CA. I am fluent in Spanish (born and raised in South America). I wanna have a degree to check the box but hopefully in the future achieve a masters and put it to work.
Thanks!

Thanks!
I already took the Spanish test.
The CLEP spanish is in bold red to highlight that is a new addition on my plan, besides the other to 2 classes from Sophia I just finished that I also show in red.

I am not sure I will be able to get to the 90 credits through Sophia before the Fall session begins.
There are quite a few people who can complete 10-20 courses on Sophia in a month, which would be 30-60 credits.

I am bummed I didn't wait, and last night I filled the form and just defered to the first session of Spring Thanks so much for this information. I wonder if I can UN-defer?
I chickened out thinking it might take me months to complete those credits I need, as I am thinking I would like to achieve 2 minors instead of one, and that scared me even more.

I'm pretty sure UMPI will let you switch back to the Spring 1 session, which starts Jan 13, 2024.
Most of the time, Sophia courses that have 0 or 1 touchstone will be the quickest to do:
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List
You can do a maximum of 3 minors at UMPI
https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_!Minors
I would suggest making a spreadsheet of what you plan to do. Do all you can at Sophia first, then do Study.com or other alt-credit course providers next.
Oh, and don't forget to have some fun while completing your degree.

Not a problem with deferring, it's always best to have your prerequisite classes completed with the Sophia.org and Study.com combo, I would get everything done for transfer credit (up to and over 90+ credits if needed), then start when you're ready. There's no rush to getting these completed, you want to go at a comfy pace, someone may be able to do classes at lightning speed, but not all can go that fast. Thanks!
I decided to begin in January and take my time to complete the Sophia, study.com and other courses within these months I will have.
