Oh my goodness.. looking at the online syllabus (which will either be the same or harder than the self paced one) this class could not be any easier or faster to complete.  There is no waiting for grading as it is all electronically and the papers are not graded and no feedback is given. Here is the info from the syllabus:
All writing projects will be self-assessed using guided rubrics. Leading up to the final draft submission and self-assessment, you will participate in a variety of process-oriented tasks including inventional activities, self- and peer-review, and revision activities (these will be tied to your participation grade). Staff will not provided individualized feedback and grades on writing projects

Does anyone know if ASU is on quarter credits or semester credits? I was on another forum and they were discouraging people away from this as an option. They said it's only quarter hours. I checked the asu website, but it says it's "3 Units" - not 3 credits.

Semester credits. Why are they discouraging people?

credits = units = hours; they are interchangeable words.  Different schools use different wording, it all means the same thing.

Quarter vs. Semester is what you want to look for.  ASU is semester-based.

Just to reiterate, semester hours are better. 1 semester hour equals 1.5 quarter hours. More bang for your buck with semester hours.

I just wanted to be sure. This is for my high school daughter who will be a junior. She wants to take it over the summer. In Ohio we have a program called CCP where the student can take duel credit. If she takes this over the summer, then in her senior year she'll be able to take English Comp 2 at a local college for free. But if the ASU credits are quarter credits - not semester credits they will only transfer in at .67 of a credit. This would put her short at the local college and they may not allow her to take English Comp 2.

The local CCP forum on Facebook was saying this was quarter hours and not to take this class as it wouldn't transfer in at full credit. I couldn't find that on their website. It listed as 3 units, which could have meant either 3 semester hours or 3 quarter hours. The class schedules online show terms set up as Fall A and Fall B, Spring A and Spring B, and Summer A and Summer B.

She is going to register this week and try to knock this out over the summer.

Most schools which use quarter hours have 4cr or 5cr courses - generally (obviously not EVERY school will do it this way).  The fact that almost all of the courses on the EA program are 3cr tells me without even checking that they are semester hours.

But I sent an email to them just now to double-check.  I'll report back.

Oh, yes, let me know! I went to a community college a long time ago that was on quarter hours and all the classes were three credits.i had to take three classes for every two semesters classes. It was a bear transferring some of those. Fortunately TESU was flexible in how they applied those.

FWIW, I cleared this course with my son’s community college that’s on regular semester hours. It will replace their English Composition 1 course for the full 3 cr.
