I am so very sorry that you have had a difficult time in life. Life is difficult enough, and then we sometimes are dealt another blow from insensitive humans who try leveling as a way to make themselves feel better, at the expense of others. (Those sorry lowdown humans....)
Yes, some are/can/have been looked down on, and sadly they are not the only ones to suffer in that manner. Here is a partial list of others that have been looked down on also;
Disabled people, disfigured people, different races, mentally challenged like Down's syndrome people, deaf people, blind people, old people, young people, lonely people, curly haired people, no haired/bald people, albino people, different races, red haired people, different faces, different circumstances, not in the popular croud, outcasts, nerds, responsible, good guys.
I was not the first person that was insulted, injured, lied to, or betrayed, and felt the pain, and won't be the last. Sadly, it happens in the Best of Families, no matter where we come from, no matter how rich we are, no matter how beautiful/gorgeous we are, no matter how smart we are, no matter how strong we are, no matter how determined we are, and to all of us. The betrayals I felt, completely broke my heart. I was not able to fix it. I had to move on, I had no choice. I didn't like it, I didn't want it, but the truth was in my face. This was the only life I had. So I had to change that. My Choice -
With all due respect to you, and all respect for how difficult you days may be now, please feel some comfort in knowing that "This too shall pass". "There is a time for all things". This is a way/one of many ways life causes us to grow. When we are learning, we are growing, and how does an oak tree become strong? Not by staying the same. You are growing and becoming stronger and taller and more gracious in wisdom of life. Life is going to change us, whether we want it or not. OMG - JAPAN right now. What if we were there? LIFE.

When I change the things I focus on, I can do something different. I move, go, change me, and grow, but when it comes down to the nitty gritty, I want you and those hard nosed military soldiers to be hard nosed and brilliant in everything you do, and I will support this.
I want a man, or soldier to be a man and/or soldier. I want a woman to be a good woman and/or soldier. I want a woman to support her man, unless he is a jerk, but still support a soldier. Soldiers and Good women will deal with Jerks. I was always taught that a Military Man had the Best Manners, and always found this to be Impeccably True.
IMHO. Pray for the world right now, because what I want really does not matter, in the big picture, from an older person. There is a reason for federal laws. Life is always changing the circumstances and is always in control of those circumstances minute by minute. Even if it looks really bad, that can change too. Regards,
