There are quite a few instances of this. It depends on the school, but sometimes you can get away with two exams that seem like the same credit -
For example, the Principles of Management CLEP and Principles of Supervision DSST cover the same thing, but often times you'll be able to take both of them and one will go towards elective credit.
This can also work against you. For example, I took the English Comp w/ essay, the Freshman Composition CLEP and then Excelsior College Exam for English Comp (I was bored). Obviously, only one of those counted.
It all boils down to the school. Anytime you even think there may be a conflict with credits not counting, check with your advisor and get the answer in writing.
