Fancy Post Skills-- I need help :)

Hi - I hope this isn't a stupid question I am not really familiar with forums and how to post certain things. I understand how to do a very basic post but I noticed many of you have such fancy skills that I admire you know how to put links in your posts, use big fonts and colors etc. I looked at the FAQ sections and it was talking about using vB codes in your posts?? Are we suppose to type in those codes or is there something else to this? I really want to know how to put a link in my posts when I am trying to show someone a helpful website or link to another post on this forum. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it!!
