I completely understand. I just took Psychology of Women TECEP and I basically had to read the textbook and felt very apprehensive from the beginning. If it wasn't for Snazzlefrag sending me a lecture review of the class (I think he did a google search if I am not mistaken), I wouldn't have known what to study.
The problem with the TECEP's are that they are expensive $70/credit hour + textbook, plus there is no study guides - as you know. There are several that I will have to take because there are no CLEP substitutes for some of my required classes. It is either testing out or take the class.
My advice to you would be to try and find a lecture notes or summary of the chapters of the textbook you need to use, find the textbook really cheap somewhere (I emailed the TESC message board and got the book for about $30), and the use the percentages that are on the test description to plan out what needs to be studied. At least that is what I did and it worked out great.
Hope this helps.
