REA books provide a fairly decent overview of the topic and--the best part--include several practice tests with explanations of the answers. Typically the overview part isn't detailed enough to pass the exam on alone but it is still very helpful. And the practice tests are great.
I'd definitely recommend REA as a resource for the Western Civ class. You might also check out the history overviews here:
History Study Guides - SparkNotes
And, of course, do the IC flashcards 3-4 times per section.
