Here's a link to the book you would want:

Amazon.com: rea western civilization 1

REA books provide a fairly decent overview of the topic and--the best part--include several practice tests with explanations of the answers. Typically the overview part isn't detailed enough to pass the exam on alone but it is still very helpful. And the practice tests are great.

I'd definitely recommend REA as a resource for the Western Civ class. You might also check out the history overviews here:

History Study Guides - SparkNotes

And, of course, do the IC flashcards 3-4 times per section.

Good luck!

REA (Research and Education Academy, I believe) publishes fine books. Generally, a CLEP manual will contain between 50 to 90 pages of information concerning the subject at hand, the majority of the book being taken up by multiple practice tests. I find all of the information an excellent supplement to Instant Cert's stuff.

(There is a general CLEP REA book available that contains just tests, but for all of the 6-credit general exams.)

It's actually Reasearch and Education Association. I was close.
