Why I’m Leaving New York City. More than half a million people left New York in 2022

NYC is incredibly expensive, that's the simplest reason why people are leaving. The "crime" narrative is very popular, but never scaled to population. Comparing the number of murders and roberries to a little podunk town or midsize city without considering how many people live, work or visit NYC daily is a favorite trick for folks who want to spin their little tales.

Sky high rents are mostly due to lack of supply and hoarding by corporations and money-laundering foreign interests.

So far this year,
1,210 felony cases have resulted in a prison sentence,
a 29% drop from 1,699 in 2019.
As for misdemeanor cases, the drop was even steeper — 78% — with just 522 resulting in jail compared to 2,413 in 2019.
