Denver is currently experiencing high rent due to corporations something - not my area of expertise - but I do know that there are practically zero housing regulations.  According to friends of mine who rent, it's practically impossible to get any inspection done for lack of liveability.   And people are still moving here!   Most of them are bad drivers and I wish they'd go away.

Rent is free if you are squatting. All you have to do is find a vacant home, squat there, and if the police come to say you have a lease make them wait a year to evict you.  That's called squatter's rights and if you are a landlord and try to remove these people, YOU will be arrested.
