Sooo, update.
I decided that I would like to be a teacher in the future. I always liked teaching and research, and besides it's one of the few professions where you have a significant slot in the year with free time, which I would use to visit my family back home.
But even though I technically could do it, I do feel weird studying at an university while my immigration status is pending, and also about spending money that I should keep in case of emergencies.
However, I do need to do something that stimulates my intellect and that gives me tools for the future. So I'm going to look into the free courses and sources of credit. I already sent my transcripts from FSU to UMPI, however, so I hope I do not have to resubmit them when I eventually apply
