I would continue with the current courses and if you go 'over' the 90 credits by a few, it's alright. Keep the mind working on courses that interest you, it's for the learning anyways if you go overboard by a little. One thing to note is to verify with admissions/advising that you have 'made' the January admissions and that your credits have been evaluated before the application deadline in late December.
We've had a few reports that people applied a couple months early but didn't 'make it' into the session due to their application not fully completed on UMPI side of things... You need to verify not once, but twice or more just to make sure you've got in before the application deadline, not a week before session begins... Good luck, have fun, happy studies!
