So a JD is not a doctorate because it does not have a thesis. Is an MD not a doctorate because it does not require a thesis? My doctor had an MB, Bachelor of Medicine. Everyone called him doctor. In my jurisdiction, not England, he was even legally authorized to use the title MD because local medical degrees are MDs.
It's not a difficult concept. The word Doctor in the title JD from top universities is kind of a hint. It's a bleeping doctorate.
