This really depends on your mentor and what your relationship with them is like.
My mentor knew I was easy work for him, and after a few weeks just trusted me to do what I wanted, and I was able to set my own order and pull courses in as I wanted, and he would rubber stamp it.
But this isn't true for everyone, and especially if you're just starting out. It's not a good option to just get a few specific courses in.
