I understand that many companies don't care much about where the degree comes from. I'm not understanding how Capella, in particular, would provide an advantage. If they're not married to a university, then they're not married to Capella.
Pick which format works best for you even though there are cheaper programs because finishing is the ultimate goal. The Flexpath programs aren't terribly priced, and there's a cap on how high the tuition can get. That's good because Capella is notorious for being so dysfunctional that students stay much longer than planned while racking up six-figure debt. That's something else to keep in mind. Your tuition won't get out of control in the Flexpath format, but you'll still be exposed to Capella's high faculty turnover rate and poor dissertation/capstone support.
Capella no longer has the program you mentioned. There is no continuity in faculty or passing down knowledge; it's not a research university. Even if those faculty members were still there, they probably wouldn't be teaching in the leadership program.
I'll admit that I do not have a high opinion of Capella's quality because I've come across hundreds of their graduates. There are some smart people who just so happen to go through their programs, but they aren't weeding out the people who don't even have basic reading and writing skills.
