This is true, and the networking (or in this case the lack thereof) is one of the things I always bring up when discussing why experienced adults learning online is a good thing. Experienced mid-career professionals generally don't need this as much as a kid with no resume to build on. On the other hand, a good name even on an experienced professional's resume can do wonders, so in that sense while the networking aspect may not be at the top of the list of needs in this situation, there can be much benefit in having a degree from a top school on your resume when you're making a move or a whole field change.
