This is precisely what happened (the topic I chose is mostly truthful). I got handed the login credentials for a desktop someone had written a PHP4 app on years prior, and had since left the company. Since I was the only person on the team who had a clue what PHP was, it became my baby. It was basically Shadow IT run amok.
