He completes all assignments, reads the text, watches the videos, etc, and he still struggles. If the tests were not open book- open note, he would fail every single time. He does NOT Google the answers which would be cheating. He is halfway done with the course, and what we have found is that he should focus all his energy in reading the text and do nothing else. A lot of the midterm questions came directly from the unit tests. I have a bachelors degree, and I am a nurse and have taken my fair share of biology. But, in my opinion, this course is useless for actually learning biology. All this course teaches a student is how to look up answers quickly in a book. Very frustrating.
I have taken many Straighterline courses and bio was the hardest by far. I did all the reading and watched the videos and in some cases re-read the chapters and it was just tough. I do not remember what grades I received on each exam as it has been some months since I took it, but I know my overall grade after the final was only a 72%. I was panicked going into the final as it was closed book (not sure if it still is) but thankfully a lot of the questions were on previous exams so I knew I'd at least get those right. I doubt I truly learned much about biology, but I did pass in the end.
