Work has been CRAZY for the last week+, the hospital is prepping for Joint Commission and I haven't had time to work on school. I did learn that the job I'm applying for has come down to 5 applicants (I'm the only one a class short of a Masters degree ) Everyone keeps saying the position is mine, but sure seems like they are dragging their feet getting this done. The interview process will be two separate board interviews plus an interview with the Administrator....fun times! This better work out, I bought a new shirt and checked the fit on my suit coat. I'm gonna spend some time next week putting together a brag sheet of my accomplishments in the position to go along with my resume. The Admin guy did mention that the only resume that really read as fully prepared for the job was mine. Oddly enough the one other applicant I'm worried about is someone I worked with back in the early 90's. Didn't really care for them then....and sure don't want to work for them now. So if they get the nod instead of me I will be looking for a new job altogether...probably right away. But I don't want to think about that.
In addition to the MBA, I've also been gathering recommendations and commendations from folks in the hospital. It feels ridiculous to ask someone to tell your boss how your doing...but I find it a most reliable way to gather recommendations. Gathered a record of an important win this way yesterday (handling of a big negative incident).
I also had to do something most unsavory yesterday...had to terminate a long time employee. My first time terming someone for a job that mattered and I knew the subject relied upon the job to live. Really sucked and I probably waited too long trying to correct behaviors before making the tough choice to let them go. I hate that it happened in early December...but I've been giving them chances to correct the behavior for months and they just went too far yesterday. Still makes me feel like the grinch though.
I will keep you posted as things develop. My Capstone team has our first review next Tuesday....more to come then.
Best,
Reb
