I have had no luck with getting any safety-related jobs or even interviews with this degree. Honestly, the courses I took didn't even prepare me for any safety-related jobs (criminal justice and a few FEMAs). My experience is in security and I have no OSHA training. From the job openings I've seen in San Antonio, safety jobs want experience and/or a bachelor's degree in a science or safety-related field. Now, my social science degree has landed me several interviews, even for jobs requiring a criminal justice degree. I even qualify to register as a licensed chemical dependency counselor intern in Texas. My degree waives the 270-hour substance abuse education and 300-hour practicum requirements. Two years of supervised experience and passage of the exams will make me a full chemical dependency counselor.
