your plan should work. Just a small point to clarify, you're not going "around the system" you're working within it. Knowing the rules is half of winning.
I point this out because the tone of what you said makes CLEP look underhanded in some way, and that's not the case at all.
Any random college student at nearly any random college in the USA can use CLEP exams to their advantage. Testing out of 15, 30, or even 45 credits+ of their degree. It's not a go around, it's 100% allowed- if you bother to learn about it.
