Okay I opened a new windows account and tried the link using internet explorer. No success!
EDIT: I just noticed that when I installed firefox it says "Safe Mode" What is that? Also, when I made a new account and tried firefox it did ask me if I wanted to import from IE and I said no.

I'm an idiot anyway... I missed this part of your earlier post:
Quote:***EDIT*** - I forgot to mention that the tech guy tried accessing it on his computer and couldn't get through either and he wasn't using the same ISP as I was! Wow, how often do you stump the tech guy?!? lol
If a guy sitting at your ISP's NOC couldn't access it, then there are bigger problems than a local computer. My apologies for having you create that other account. :o
I don't like admitting defeat, but we may be at an impasse with this one. You may want to call the ISP tech guy back and give him the Petersons technical number. They may be able to hash it out between the two of them. I've never liked waiting for things to "clear themselves up" either

You're not an idiot! I really appreciate you trying to help. I am going to try and call Petersons myself because the ISP tech guy said that it is not our internet. He pinged the site and we were getting through. So I guess it is completely a Peterson problem not allowing my info through or something. If however that doesn't resolve it I will probably have our ISP call Petersons. Thanks for the tips!

Safe mode usually means it's going to open with just the barebone essentials running. No plug ins, no extensions, etc. Shouldn't matter for what we're doing here.
Also, the fact that it asked about the import this time and not the last time probably means you still had remnants of Firefox on the computer. My apologies there as well. I automatically assume everyone uninstalls things like I do:
1) Run the uninstall
2) Track down and delete the folder that every program seems to leave these days with files (just in case you reinstall) <- this is probably why it didn't ask
3) Reboot and run a registry scan for any remnants of the program.
Number three's a bit much, but I hate loose ends. You can get away with just doing number two in the future.

Okay I think you got me a little on this one. I understand #1, but what is #2 and #3? Or I guess how do I do that? (In case you can't tell, I'm not very good with technical issues! lol)

Don't worry about #3. It truly is overkill, but old habits die hard.
For #2, it just requires you to find the folder that the program was in before. You can usually find them by doing the following :
Start > Computer > C: (or whatever your OS drive is) > Program Files > find the folder (for Firefox it's "Mozilla Firefox")
I'll usually look for the folder after running any uninstall since some uninstalls don't really delete everything. Browsers often leave bookmarks and temp files, games often leave saved game data, and many other programs often leave setup or .ini files.
It does make things more convenient if you ever reinstall them, but I like knowing that everything is gone when I remove something from my computer.

Chebasaz Wrote:Also... as long as we're on the topic - Please don't use that military link unless you're actually affiliated with the DoD. When they say "Civilian" there, they're talking about DoD Civilians aka Government Employees.
Now if you are affiliated:
Government Contractor
Government Civilian
Active Duty Military
Reserve Military
National Guard
Retired Military
or you have an immediate family member (this means a husband/wife/father/mother if you're a dependent)
then by all means use it! It's a great resource and the Department of Defense pays for you to use it.
A quick way of telling if you qualify or not - Do you have a military ID or CAC Card? Then you qualify. If you don't, then please don't use it. By doing so you're taking money away from those who do qualify. It's not a bottomless well.
I'm so glad you brought this up. I have a family member who served in the military for 4 years and is a veteran. Does this count?
Whether it does or not, having them update the library system is great, so we can all keep using our local libraries' websites.

Sorry for hijacking your thread Horsemaniac. I hope you get this worked out soon!

Unfortunately not, for you or your family member. He would qualify if he'd have gotten out as a medical retirement due to injury and such, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
To give you another example - I was in the military for eight years. During that time, I would have qualified. Then I got out with a normal honorable discharge back in '04. Even though I'm a veteran (disabled at that) I no longer qualified to use that link the day I left. But wait! I got a job as a government contractor soon after. All of a sudden I qualified again. Unfortunately, I quit my job yesterday. I no longer qualify.
The CAC/Military ID really is a good litmus test. If you have one, you're golden. If not, then I can't think of a reason you would qualify using the DoD/MWR criteria.
This was part of the conversation I had with the employee from Petersons the other day. That's actually how the subject of them upgrading the library portals came up. Once they do the upgrade, we'll all be good for as long as that link works.
