ECEs?
#1
Hi, all!

I'm thinking about taking the World Conflicts Since 1900 ECE next. I know I'll either have to take that test, or another course from somewhere. What I don't know is how to go about handling ECEs. Up until now, I've only done CLEP, DSST, and a few FEMAs.

For those of y'all who have taken ECEs, what's the process? Can I take it at my normal testing center (Trevecca Nazarene University)? How do I need to prepare for it? And any other tidbits of info y'all can give! The unknown is a little daunting. :p

Thanks!
~ Laura ~

Hi, first of all I haven't taken this exam, but I have taken other ECE's. You will test at a Pearson Vue testing center only. You will need to register and pay for the exam on the EC website. Then afer 24 hours you can register with Pearson Vue's website then locate a test center and schedule your exam. If EC has a practice exam I highly recommend that you spend the $65 and purchase it. It will give you 2 practice exams. You can't order the practice exam until you register for and pay for the actual exam. You can do both at the same time. When you select your exam you should see the practice exam listed right below it. The exams are usually 3 hours long. They are usually harder than CLEP and DSST because most are UL credit and they test your application of the information more so than just memorization of facts and terms. They are a little harder and do require more studying and knowledge than most CLEP and DSST exams I have taken. As you can see by my scores I did get A's on most of the CLEP and DSST's but got mostly B's on the ECE's. EC does provide a free study guide you can use as well. I didn't usually purchase the textbook the exam guide recommended, I just used other sources. You should also check the specific exam feedback section here for some info.

Step 1) Call Excelsior college and pay $250 bucks
Step 2) Wait 48 hours
Step 3) Call Pearson Vue or go online to schedule
Step 4) Wait a month because Pearson Vue was totally booked Wink

The process is pretty easy and overall I was pleased. I still haven't taken my ECE yet, but it was simple, unlike trying to schedule a TECEP, which I just gave up on.

Thank y'all so much for your replies! One other thing, what do y'all recommended? Should I go on and schedule the test asap, or should I study first like I usually do with the CLEPs and DSSTs?

I would at least try to schedule.

I was so bummed when I had studied and was ready to take my ECE Labor Relations only to find out that they couldn't get me in until 3/29. Lol.. with my cramming strategy that just doesn't work! I'll start forgetting stuff if I wait until 3/29. So it means that I'll need to do a whole extra study session before the test.

If your Pearson Vue isn't as busy as mine, then this may not be necessary, but I wouldn't risk it.

Hi Laura,

I'm taking this exact test tomorrow, and unfortunately there are no practice tests for it (I would have gladly paid the $65 Sad ) . What you can do is go ahead and register (pay the fee and get your name in the system) because after that you have 6 months to take the exam.
Whenever you decide to take it, the process is very simple and I didn't have a problem with the testing appointments being full. Of course wherever you are, they might be full but at my testing center they said it had been months since someone had come there to take an ECE.

Good luck!

I would recommend scheduling it when you think you will be ready to take it. If as you get closer you need more time, just reschedule it online. As long as you reschedule it out further than 24 hours from the test time you won't be penalized. My test center usually took about 2-3 weeks to schedule. If you want it sooner, make and appointment, then keep checking back each day to see if someone cancelled then you can reschedule to the earlier time. I did that a few times too! Pearson Vue does hold spots for regularly schedule exams, but when they find out no-one is registered they will release those spots, so openings change daily. Good luck!
