History I
#1
I'm taking the first half of history. I've never used IC before but I'm excited to try. I tried CLEPing out of English once and failed by four points. It's very important that I pass this one for my own confidence and also because I live so far to commute from the college that I could save my parents so much gas money. I'm really at a loss of where to start studying though and I'm having trouble finding good books to read. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also would like to know what is most important to focus on . . . Thanks for your help.

I used IC, cliffs notes quick review and a couple of history channel shows on the revolutionary war. I like the idea of using videos to supplement IC. In my version there seemed to be a lot of antebellum questions, and others that I did not recognize from IC.
Good luck!

I used REA only (before I knew about IC) and was prepared. If you use both, you won't have any problem with the exam. I don't recall any of the exam specifics because I sat for it in 05.

Trasyrincan,

I just took the test approximately 3 days ago. There were many questions that weren't referenced in any of the flashcards.

Be familiar with the ideas of major political players as opposed to what they did, also know different political party stances on federal government, slavery, national banks, individual liberties, so on and so forth. Make yourself familiar with some of the cultural aspects of the time too, I had several questions in regards to authors and painters of the period.

Familiarize yourself with major federal court cases and their implications on the society, also there were several questions on the basis of why colonies were founded. Why did the quakers start this colony, what was the major difference between colony A and colony B.

I didn't find many questions in regard to the french and indian war, but several involving native american affairs with the colonists and spanish.

I've used IC for several tests and have felt more than prepared for every one except the American History. I hope this information proves to be helpful for you.

For both History I & II, I used two very cheap textbooks that I bought from the local university. I read through them once and then want back and reviewed questions from some of the chapters. This was long before I know of IC. I had no problem with the test and scored high on each test.
