hello everyone.... yr posts are so valuable....i am planning to give clep sociology withing a week. i read others posts on ic and felt that it should not take more than a week to be done with it. but i am little doubtful because i have no book or material for sociology except IC flashcards. so are only IC flashcards enough for passing? is one week of preparation enough or do i need to go for a deeper study? pls help me clear my doubts. my aim is only to pass and get 3 credits. i dnt aim at getting an excellent score.

You shouldn't need too much time for a pass on this one. I studied for two days, did IC flashcards twice and the Peterson practice tests. Strangely, I felt like I was doing really good on the test but only pulled a 57. Its not a hard test though.

I'm not sure why I'm the only one who thinks Sociology was not easy...I'm in college and I only needed this CLEP and 2 more...I studied for 2 months for Sociology using IC and REA. Throughout the exam I thought I would fail...I passed with a 51. I felt the questions had very little to do with what I studied...I don't listen to the news and my exam had several questions about Obama's health care plan which I didn't know about and some other terms that weren't on IC or REA...I don't mean to scare you - I think I'm the only one here who thought it was hard...I don't think I'm a dummy. It might just be that I do well by sitting in a class and learning rather than teaching myself. Good luck!

Wow obamacare was on there? I know a lot about that topic since I am glued to the news daily.
I always always suggest reading the REA book for any topic.
These cleps are a little easier for us older adults because we watch more news.
When I was 18 I cared about cars and getting a tan than politics

Yes, I am 18 but I do NOT care about cars and getting tans...lol. I'm getting my BA with only 1 year at college, instead of 4. That means my days have no time for me to do things I enjoy. I am very responsible and study all day...my friends always tell me they need to teach me how to have fun... News just doesn't interest me - although I knew some of the answers because my parents talk about news all the time. I still don't know the connection between Sociology and Obama's plan.

Prettyprincess if you are on this site then yeah you have your head on straight

School was the least important of all of my worries at the time. I had an apartment, two Camaros and a girlfriend and a couple of cats and oh yeah a 35 hour per week job!
So thats my deal. Keep your head down and get through this degree quickly like you are doing.

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.
Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice)
Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams
Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS.
Note you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.
Something Else To Know

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The hight possible is an 80.
FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.
THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.
60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts
If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts
You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.
30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.
Now:If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.
By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.
