Please steer me in the right direction!
#1
I am needing advice. I was recently offered the head coaching position of a junior college basketball team starting in 2011-2012. However, I would need to have a bachelor degree (any field) by June of 2011. Is this realistic at one of the "big three". If so, any advice on how and which school. What I was hoping to do is to get a pell grant and student loans. Use the left over money from online classes (refund) to pay for other test. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

some of the question people responded with in similar post, I will also answer.

A. I am not a genius but I am OK.I have a 4.0 and do well with studying for test.

B. I can dedicate as much time as needed for study.

C. I would like a general business degree but would take basket weaving if necessary.

Thanks again!

Hi pflournoy,

While it massively depends on your own personal circumstances, the short answer is yes. The courses you currently have gives you a great head start toward a business degree. The quickest route, if using grants and looking to maximise your credits would probably be a BSBA from TESC.

TESC's BSBA in Business Administration credit distribution is here.

I looked at doing this previously and some basic information can be found in my progress thread here.

If you search the forum for 'bsba' and 'tesc', you will find some great feedback from many people who have completed this and similar programs. This will also allow you to identify which exams (CLEP/DSST/ECE/TECEP/UEXCEL) will fit into the degree requirements. Also, which self-paced courses (Straighterline would be able to complement your Financial Accounting and satisfy Managerial Accounting; ALEKS can be used to satisfy Stats and Precalculus Maths) are available to be completed as best fits your circumstances.

Hope this helps. Welcome and good luck!

You are in an excellent position to complete a Business degree from either Thomas Edison (TESC) or Excelsior. For the BSBA Gen Business at TESC it looks like you only need Prin of Mgt (Business Management Principles BA-206-05 may apply), Mgr Acct, Bus Law, Business Policy, Bus Finance & Bus in Society/Int Bus (Business Ethics may apply) to complete the core area. TESC also has a BSBA with a "Learner Designed Area of Study".
Quote:Thomas Edison State College | BSBA Learner-Designed Area of Study
Since you already have 12 credits in Sports Fitness/Management (below), you might consider this as an option if you could put together a justifiable plan that includes 6 other credits (like Bus Ethics & Org Behav etc...)

SPHE413 Sports Marketing
SPHE351 Coaching Basketball Technical and Tactical Skills
Conditioning, Beg 32781 PE-185CA-04
Conditioning, Int 52863 PE-185CB-04

So a quick plan for completing the TESC business core could be:
CLEP Principles of Mgmt $80 (if Business Management Principles BA-206-05 doesn't apply)
CLEP Business Law $80
DSST Principles of Finance $85 or TESC course
DSST Business Ethics in Society $85 (if Business Ethics doesn't apply)
Managerial Acct (Straighterline $99 + $39 if completed in under 1 month)
Business Policy TESC course

To qualify for the student loan, you need to take at least 6 credits, which could be Business Policy and one other course.

If TESC applies both Business Management Principles & Business Ethics to your core then you are really set.

Good luck whatever you decide!

This information was very helpful. Do you know what the max amount of credit hours you can take in a semester for TESC and Excelsior is? I know at American Public University 15 is the max. Thanks again!
