REA for last minute prep for HGD CLEP?
#1
Hello all,

I am a newbie with a question or two.

I am taking HGD CLEP exam this week and it seems redundant for me to study because I took the Intro to Sociology (my major), passed it this time with a 52 and Intro to Psychology as a class (Got a C). So my question is this, is the REA book good to use for last minute prep? Any other last minute prep books? I don't need to know what specifically is on there because I have been skimming an old textbook. Luckily, this should be easy since I have that background but this is life or death for me as I need three more hours before graduation next week.

Thanks!

Yes, I think the REA book is a good prep since you have background on this material. I think the best thing to gauge how well you know the material is take the 3 free Peterson tests. If you do well on those I think you will do well on the real test. The scores I got on the Peterson are what I pretty much scored on the real thing.

Did you take the average of all three scores to determine what your score would be or the score from all three? I saw that the point of knowing when you're ready to take the exam is at 60% and after the first test, I got 40 (maybe because I was surprised by the terms I didn't review). Now, I'm more nervous to take the exam after that first score. banghead

No, I did not take an average of the 3 scores. Each one stood as a separate test for me. I was averaging in the 70's for each test and that is the ball park of what I got on the real test. I think if you are getting in the 40's you need to beef up the studying on what you are weak on.

I passed human growth and development 2 weeks ago with a 54. I definitely recommend REA for this one. I wouldn't waste much time actually reading through the book, but instead take the practice tests. Then if there are ones you get wrong, look it up in the book and read up on it. Another thing is the Petersons practice tests. I quickly did one the morning before the test and I wish I had spent more time doing that. It's a little harder than the actual test but it is very helpful. Hope this helps!

I took the test and missed by 1 point. Then I found out by my advisor that I have til Sept 2nd to get my faxed copy in. I wish I knew this ahead of time so I could have gained that extra point needed. So...

I am now studying for Intro to Business Law (my favorite subject).

I'm doing a lot of e-book studying on the specifics so I'm hoping this gives me the 3 I need. Barron's, Complete Idiots and the Mann book better help in torts and contracts for sure.
