My head hurts just thinking about doing 18 credits in one day:eek: As a friend says "you're 100 years old", I would not even think of trying. The only time I even attempted 2 test in one day I failed one. (But I will be trying again next Saturday)

My subscription to IC has run out so you have to tell us How did you learn SO much SO fast???????????

Since the French CLEP is fresh on your mind, I thought I would ask this:

If a person's native language is Spanish, would you recommend that they try the French CLEP also? (Is there enough in common between the two languages for them to be successful?)

I wouldn't even recommend a native spanish speaker take the spanish clep without studying fairly well on it. A lot of the exam is nothing more than comprehension, which a native speaker will have down pact. However, the test is about proper grammar, especially verb tenses and placement of pronouns, which is not usually as consistent in every day life as it is on paper. If that person read spanish literature, however, he should nail the test.

There are many similarities between the two languages. Knowing one will definitely help you with learning the other. However, there are some major differences and in most gramatical cases it's not a safe bet to assume it is just like Spanish. French is a lot, let me emphasize, a LOT more tightly woven gramatically than either English or Spanish. The biggest advantages that a spanish speaker would have are, for one, the idea that an object pronoun can procede the verb and, two, the heavy use of the subjunctive as opposed to english, which barely uses it at all.

When it comes to vocabulary, a native bilingual English/Spanish speaker will have no problem at all picking it up. So many words are simmilar that, especially in a multiple choice test, it should be pretty easy to guess at the meaning of words you haven't seen before.

Really, again congrats! You learning the French language in 2-3 days reminded me of the movie Phenomenon with John Travolta. Remember when he had to learn Portuguese in a matter of a few minutes? Just phenomenal~that's you!
