Can somebody remind me how much credit TESC awards for FEMA for a TWO year degree?

RickeyJo - do you have a foreign language that you could test out of - some count as much as 12 hours - if you have enough knowledge it is a fairly easy way to get credit - I was bilingal in French and got an easy 12 hours towards my plan

Let me just put it this way:

If I had not had to deal with foreign language my freshman and sophomore years of high school I would have had two 4.0 semesters. Courtesy of Spanish I had 0. When I was no longer required to I dropped that subject with glee.

So I'm afraid not Sad but a fabulous tip! Keep throwing out the ideas, I'm listening!

Rickyjo,

I believe you asked about Clackamas in a previous post.

Clackamas Community College is on a Qtr hour basis and the cost is $30 per course to transcribe. Max credits that can be transcribed per term is 18.

18 qtr hour credits works out to 12 semester hours I believe. ( 18 X .67)

18 X 30 = $540

Emergency Management - see links at bottom of this page

http://depts.clackamas.edu/crimjust/documents/emreg.pdf

Verify with Excelsior that they are still accepting FEMA on a Clackamas transcript, if they are this should save you some money.

That would be great! As of now I need 15 FEMAs but I could take the one computer CLEP and save some serious money (both by using CCC and by CLEPing instead of implementing FEMA for the 3 credits), so I would imagine that's what I'll do. Thanks so much for the info!

If you don't care what your degree is in and you just want it fast and cheap, why not go for a Emergency Management Associates at TESC. I don't know where you live so I can't say what the tuition is, but all your FEMA credits transfer for free and in that degree I believe they will take 25.

I would also urge you not to write off CLEP or DSST exams. If you could get 4.0 in high school (I flunked Spanish II too) and pass an AP exam i am sure you can pass a CLEP. Remember you only need a 50 to pass. At my age memory is not good and I always have trouble with the facts I am supposed to memorize (even math and science stuff I didn't memorize when I was young). I have been able to pass all my test using short intense study periods (sometimes as little as 2-3 days) and common sense and logic.

If you PM or e-mail (Lindager@hotmail.com) me your current credits, I will do my best to help you figure out what you will need at TESC.

I am away and only have internet access once a day so it might take a day or so.

I can tell you I did my last 9 credits for my AA at TESC in 6 weeks with CLEP. I did my last 29 credits(including a 50+ hour ALEKS) for my BA in 5 months while working 3/4 to full time. I also have a mother, husband, and 2 (grown) sons and a daughter I help out.

You can get this done in a short time if you are determined enough.

Hmmm, tell me this. I was under the impression that you had to be actively in the field of emergency management with hands on training and experience to get this degree. Is that not the case? I for the life of me cannot find the data on this degree on TESCs website. They didn't eliminate this degree did they? I found the bachelors in homeland security...

Even if this could work, I may just go for the AS due to broader nature of the degree. That said, I would like to be properly aware of my options and costs. I will send you the PM and am very grateful for your assistance.

Hey NAP. You mentioned that only 3 courses under calc are allowed at EC; however, is that in the context of a 2 year degree only or any degree. Can I do four or five if someday I intend to get a 4 year from that institution?

I'm having difficulty discerning what are suggestions and what are requirements. Are all mentions of specific classes just suggestions? Does the little disclaimer at the bottom apply to the whole list or just the focus? If that's the case than this is a very viable option and would cost sooo much less. FEMA wouldn't cost anything, more of my ALEKS work would be applied, I wouldn't have to take information literacy (why does EC do that to use?!) and could just take the two SL English courses and be done with it.
That. Would. Be. Awesome.

If any of those recommended classes are actually required classes I'm screwed, but if I'm reading it correctly, that's not the case.

I also see no mention of a requirement to be working in the field (which is good because I'm not).

Thanks for finding that link for me!

OH, and I would be better off at TESC than EC if I wanted to pursue a 4 year degree.
