Civil War or Rise & Fall of USSR - Which One is Easier?

I found them both to be quite difficult. But it is possible to do well if you study hard enough for them.

Which one is easiest, is a bit of a toss up. Personally, I think USSR was slightly easier, bit it's obviously very subjective.

You might like to go with the one you are most interested in learning about.

I really enjoyed studying for both of them, and I learned a lot. But they aren't easy exams.

Instantcert was great for the foundation, but you should make sure you do other research online as well. Wikipedia was invaluable, and you will find links to many other resources if you do a forum search for the threads about each particular exam.

To me, I found the Civil War easier insofar as I felt I had a leg up on the topic having a slight to moderate interest in the subject area already whereas I didn't give a crap about the USSR.[/COLOR][/SIZE]

I agree. I also though Civil war was easier, but I scored higher on the Soviet Union. I would do the Civil War. There are A LOT of reconstruction questions.

I actually took both tests in the same day, but have yet to receive my results (it's been over four weeks now). I'd have to agree with the majority; the Civil War test seemed easier. I'm sure that the main reason is that most U.S. citizens know more about the U.S. Civil War than they do about the former Soviet Union. Almost everybody in the U.S has heard about the battle of Gettysburg, etc.

You will also find if much easier to study for the Civil War test. If you are so inclined, you can borrow the PBS Civil War videos from your library and study while drinking a beer and eating nacho chips.

The InstantCert material also seemed pretty good. Although there were some questions that were not covered by InstantCert, I think that the material presented was good enough to pass (although I don't know for a fact that I actually did pass).

I don't think I would have had the courage (or the brain mass) to do those two particular exams in one day. Ha ha!

You may be on to something there. I am British, and knew very little about the American Civil War prior to studying for that exam. However, I had been exposed to the history of the USSR throughout my childhood and teen years. I felt I had a strong grasp of the USSR material when I began to study for it.

As a result, I had more of an initial interest in the USSR than the Civil War, I enjoyed studying for USSR more, and I had a head start on the required knowledge. If you are American, the reverse may be true.

Having said that, I wonder how many of you scored higher on Civil War than you did on USSR? Did most of you Americans do better on the Civil War exam than you did on the USSR exam?

I studied equally hard for both exams, and knew the material for both very well. But I scored higher on the USSR exam than I did on the Civil War exam, and found the Civil War exam to be more challenging.

So, which of these two history exams did you guys actually score higher on?

Do you have a big giant head?

As a matter of fact, I do have a giant head. However did you know? You must've talked to my hatmaker. Actually, I just felt that I already knew much about both subjects from prior learning and I did well on the DSST fact sheet quizes. It is possible that I would have passed both tests without studying, although I did use InstantCert, Sparknotes, and I also watched some videos.

BTW, since I was taking BL2 today, I requested that the test administrator inquire about my Civil War and USSR grades with DSST and I was told that I passed both tests (it pays to have a giant head, even if it's difficult to get out of the car).

Snazzlefrag, you may not know, but in the U.S. the Civil War has quite a following, and many people get together to re-enact battles at old battlefields. Also, most larger bookstores have a section about Civil War history.

I did better on the USSR though I thought it was MUCH harder when I took it.

After I take drug & Alcohol Abuse on Wednesday I will begin preparing for the Civil War & the USSR exams. I would like to request that members of this board that have taken these exams to "Brain Dump" what they remember from the tests.... Every little bit helps...... Thanks!

I'm taking the USSR DSST next week along with Money and Banking on the same day. However, when i took the Civil War, it just seemed easier to me. Your milage may vary but i finished the test in about 40 minutes for a 112 questions. It probably helps that my father is an ex-college professor in the area of history. ^_~
