science courses with labs
#1
Does anyone know of any schools online that offer the following courses with labs? It can be a brick and mortar school but they have to be offered through distance learning. My local school doesnt start till Jan and Im looking to start asap. Plus my school by me also only allows me to take say bio I first then next semester bio II. I want to knock them out.
1) biology I and II
2) chem I and II
3) organic chemistry
4) Human Anatomy and Human Physiology

thanks

join me here: Ocean County College
That's where I'm taking all my sciences. You can't get organic chem online (yet) but the rest of your list (and more) is covered. Also, home labs are fun but expensive. When you start the bios, you'll need a microscope. Then, for each class you buy the labpac. The labpac comes with everything (slides, models, chemicals, cats lol) and then your teacher supplies you with lab instructions. There are sometimes add'l supplies you'll need that are household type things (a pan, lemon juice, etc) and of course your book.
Ocean also has web interactive CDs that go with the class.
Of course since you have to buy a microscope and lab supplies, you'll spend more up front than B&M classes, but so far so good- I'm lovin Ocean!

Try clovis.edu, very reasonable prices. They have a couple of bio and one chem lab online course.

ok, here is my pet peeve about lab science, others can chime in too.

It's a prereq flippin nightmare!! Before you map out your classes, study the prereq lists for each college and see how many semesters you're going to end up with. That's how I ended up at Ocean because that was the only AP sequence I could find without prereqs! You'll find general bio and general chem as prereqs often, and those almost always have math and placement test prereqs. <uggghhh> I guess if I were just starting, and I took each painstaking chem and bio course as well as college algebra all from day 1, then I wouldn't have had to work so hard to get my classes in order- but that's just a heads up.

If you have the math prereqs for bio 1 and chem 1 (you do), then this is the fastest you could work your list at Ocean, but you won't have a life:

semester 1
Bio 1, Chem 1, AP 1

semester 2
Bio 2, Chem 2, AP 2

semester 3
Microbiology, organic chem

My local community college has a chem 110 prereq to chem 101, and college algebra as a prereq for bio 1...they also require bio 1 and chem 1 as prereqs for ap1- and everyone wants ap2 as a prereq for micro. It's a maze. So, if I did mine F2F here it would be 6 semesters over 2 1/2 years. (!)

Hey Jennifer, have you checked to see that those classes do not say "Online" or "Distant Learning" on the transcript? That would be the only thing worrying me especially if you are trying to get into a Masters program or Medical School.

Let me know. Thanks!

I'll let you know what I find out. In my case it doesn't matter, but it's worth checking. I don't think we have had any pre-med students here, the competition just is too tough to risk a CLEP. My guess is that a "pass" vs an "A" could cost someone their acceptance....anyway, I'll be heading to a F2F local BSN program, and then onto a DNP program (ut-oh, I hadn't said that out loud yet! ). Both doctorate programs on my list don't have anything on their web sites about specific undergrad course requirements- only that the applicant have a BSN and specific GPA. I'll be applying to University of Illinois-Chicago and/or Frontier School of Midwifery. Both use DL in some form or another, so does my F2F BSN program come to think of it.
(I was already accepted into a University of Illinois master program last year, and that was with a distance learning undergrad- so it can be done!)
