CSU Pueblo - Mgmt 362
#1
I just wanted to let everyone know about this course. Many of us have taken the CSU 311 course to meet the requirement for the Ops Management degree at TESC (and I tink it works for EC as well).

Well, I enrolled in the 362 course for additional area of study credits. Here is what the course entails. 15 assignments covering about 23 chapters and three exams and a 5-10 page report.

Now before you get all freaked out let me tell you my experience. This is my first day in the course. I had this same instructor for the 311 course so I had an idea I could truly work at my own pace. The assignments are loosely based on the readings from the book. The book is inexpensive, the chapters are short at 10-20 narrow pages.

I completed the first two assignments and emailed them at 3:00 and the instructor had them graded by 3:30 and gave me full credit for both assignments. He mentioned that he would send the exam via email at anytime I request it.

Having taken his 311 course I was hoping there were open book exams, and they are.

I would Highly recommend this course to anyone who can use it. It will not be difficult if you have taken other business courses and can use the language acquired in management, economics and marketing in your assignments.

I am already up to assignment #10. But I won't submit all of them because he allows you to submit the paper for a review, will comment on it, and then allow you to revise it for a better grade as long as you haven't turned in more than 8 assignments.

In all this is about as easy of a class as you will find. Easier than the 311 course in which most everyone gets an "A".

Excellent news! Thank you for the report. I am interested in this and some of the other courses at CSU so it's great to get some inside information. Please continue to share your experiences.

If you have an opportunity to ask, it would be great to know if he teaches the 460 and 468 classes as well.

I know he doesn't teach the 485 course. That instructor is Wakefield, he is fair.

In the 485 course you must do 4-6 chapter questions and then an ethic question for each chapter. The instructor gives very little weight to the assignments, appears to give full credit for each chapter assignment and puts most of the course points to the exams and the two financial analysis that you have to do. Those are 5-10 pages each.

There is a proctored midterm and final which are about 10 essay questions each and only based on the chapters assigned. Basically you need to know everything you have studied for the exams. They are not difficult if you can remember what is in the chapters of the book.

Remember this is the capstone course so they want to make sure you know what you should have learned in management, finance , econ, and marketing.

I'm sorry I don't know about the 468 course. But I will try to find out.

Just got the first exam emailed to me from the instructor!

I am looking it over and it is a case review with only two questions to answer. Basically he wants to know solutions to the case at hand, probably two or three pages of essay.

I have received full credit for all 5 assignments so far, and I am sure I will get an "A' on this exam as well.

It took him two days to review my most recent assignments and send my exam, but I am not complaining at all. If I can finish my 5-10 page report by this weekend I may finish this course by next week. Which won't be too bad. One course in under two weeks.

I know I say this is a super easy course but it wouldn't be if you haven't taken at least some of the business courses before. I breeze through it because I don't have to read the text as diligently because the terminology and concepts are recent in my memory.

But I would still find it difficult for anyone not to get an "A" in this course, similar to the 311 course.

Ok, I was up until the wee hours of the night working on chapters 6 & 7. They were not difficult but my daughter had a project due for school I had to work on 1st.

I already had the 1st exam sent to me via e-mail. I sent in chapters 6 & 7 at 12:40 this afternoon and the instructor had them graded by 1:30. I am sure he only gives them a cursory look and attempts to find keywords from the text in my writings.

So now I just sent in the 1st exam. I should have a grade for that soon, or by early next week if the instructor is done for the weekend.

Now I am going to start on the research paper that can be done on any concept from the textbook. BTW, the text only cost me $12.00 used online. The cd with cases did not come with the book but here is the link to the cases online for free.

World Class Supply Management

With any luck I will finish the paper this weekend for his review and comments and hopefully the entire course by next Friday.

I hope my posts are helpful, one thing I noticed is that people don't give enough information on the level of coursework for the courses they take. I think we should create a list of all the distance courses we have taken and give an idea of the course requirements, how quickly we were able to progress and how the instructor grades.

I received 100/100 as a score on the first exam. It is a two question essay so unless you have no idea what your talking about or just horrible in writing you should do OK. Just be sure you are detailed in your analysis and eliminate vague recomendations.

I am working no to feverishly complete the 5-10 page paper that is due. I just noticed this morning that I was to get the instructors approval for the topic, which I didn't get.

So hopefully he will accept my topic.

I just noticed that each exam is weighted for points more than the previous exams. The first is 100 points, the second 150 points and the third is 250 points. It appears that they are cumulative, so the second exam could ask questions from all chapters previously read.

Congratulations on that exam.

For anyone who comes across this thread, Supply Chain is a good elective for a business major, and this course seems very doable. A lot of folks on the forum are into testing out, and that's awesome, but carefully selecting distance courses has made getting my degree more fun and (I hope) more marketable.

Ok, so I wasn't able to complete the course as fast as I wanted. I had some plumbing issues with my house. Ugh, something always comes up!

So, I completed all the assignments this last week and turned in the rough draft of the paper. The second exam was as easy as the first and I have received full credit for all the assignments but one, where I guess I didn't understand the question. I have also received full credit for the two exams.

The instructor e-mailed me the final exam when I submitted the 12th assignment out of 15.

So now all I have left is the final and the re-write of my paper. The final scared me when I downloaded it (10 pages). The final exam is 4 case analysis. 1 page of exam questions for each case. Two of the exam question pages are tables that must be filled in, so I guess there are really only two pages of exam questions.

Hopefully I can finish this today.

Ok I finished the final exam an sent it in on the 22nd. I still had not heard from the instructor about my essay so I gave him until the 26th and e-mailed him about both my essay and my final.

He wrote me back that I could revise the essay if I chose to but I already had enough points to ensure my "A" so he is fine with just letting it go at that.

Woo Hoo I didn't have to revise my essay.

So to sum up this course, the assignments are really easy until the last couple of assignments where you do some case analysis. If you are not already familiar with some of the concepts in purchasing and materials management you will need to read the text a little closer. The first exam is very easy, and they get progressively more difficult. The final exam was 4 short case analysis.

Up until the final you will breeze through the course and even though the final case analysis are more complex than the others you will do for the lessons, it is still open book and no proctors so it is not that difficult.

I wanted to have the course completed in three week but that just didn't work out as life has its way of altering your plans. However, this course can be completed in five or six weeks easily.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for covering this class and congratulations on your A. Unless I opt to take the comparable class at Excelsior, I'll consider this if I need an upper-level business elective.
