Need feedback on Peterson’s practice exams
#1
What is your overall impression, pros and cons, of the Peterson’s practice exams? Need to develop an efficient strategy (as it pertains to both time commitment and costs) to prepare for some of the more challenging exams where I do not feel comfortable with relying on IC and CollegeBoard alone. With all of the IT certification exams I’ve prepped for over the years, I’ve always found that high quality practice exams are a good/efficient method absorb, compartmentalize and make sense of large volumes of information.

Are the Peterson exams fairly realistic as compared to the actual exams? What others would you recommend. Please keep in mind that I am married with children my money is already been allotted accordingly (this is one of my standing jokes, however, there is truth in jest here to be sure), so budgetary constraints are a consideration. Thanks in advance for any feedback...

MCPL: Education & Career Try this link. It will get you Peterson exams at no charge. I have only done one test so far... Freshman College Comp. My Peterson score and actual score were within 5% of each other. Having taken the Peterson, I would say it is comparable to the CLEP. I'm working on intro to psych now, got 50% on my first practice, going at it blind. We'll see tomorrow where I sit with some IC and test studying under my belt.

They are fairly realistic compared to the actual exams -- though often harder. Of all the Peterson's exams I've taken, I have found the Humanities practice tests to be the best.

The best thing is that Peterson's tests are available online for free from the website linked on this forum page: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...-link.html

I also recommend REA's tests, which are always excellent preparation. Sometimes you learn almost as much from the practice tests as you do from the review sections!

Peterson's exams are probably my favorite practice questions aside from the Official CLEP Study Guide. Peterson's are sometimes slightly more difficult than the real exam, but if you do well on the tests, you can be pretty confident that you'll do fine on the actual exam. So I give them a big thumbs up!!

I'm an REA fan. I have their CLEP general practice tests (the book with a ton of them and no reference material) and found them to be excellent for both english comp and social sciences. The answer explanations were absolutely key and I learned a substantial amount of material simply from doing postmortems after every practice test.

I took a peterson's practice test for American Gov't and found it to be excellent as well. I took it for free so it has the edge on REA pricewise at least.

I do like REA too, but the only downside is that the ones I have taken seem to be much harder than the real exam (more so than Peterson's). There's one story I like to tell about REA: I once took a REA practice exam for A&I Literature and got a 57. The next day with virtually no extra study, I took the real exam and got a 75. Something went wrong there....LOL Big Grin

Its a confidence builder. I like to think of REA as the coach who runs the crap out of you in practice so when game time comes around you're practically taking it easy out there on the field.

I too have noticed that the REA practice exams are much harder than the real thing..I guess it's better to be safe than sorry right? haha

For example, for Human Growth and Development I was scoring in the high 50's or low 60's on the REA and ended up getting pretty bored on the actual exam and got a 74 Tongue.
