Comp sci Degree [UK]
#1
Hello. I am a developer from the UK and want to get a comp sci degree. I've been watching youtube but I'm still a little confused:
  • If I transfer credits, how much will a comp sci degree from TESU cost? In the videos I've watched, they haven't mentioned total cost.
  • How much extra would it cost for a second degree? I had read that you can do a second degree with TESU for much less money. The CIS course looks good, though it's not really aimed at developers so much, I think I would enjoy doing it.
  • Can the CS50 course or an AWS developer certificate be used as credits for anything?
I want to complete the degrees as fast as possible but I'd also like to get better with algorithms.

The TESU comp sci course has a lot of irrelevant subjects mixed in which will be of no use to developing; excelsior looks better in this regard. Do you know how much that would cost? I've tried looking on linkedin and it seems WGU has the most graduates in tech companies but that's not available to me, so i think I've narrowed it down to excelsior and TESU.

Thank you for your time

Welcome to the board, that's a simple first introduction post, it's missing the more important addendum and template info! Without these, we don't know what scenario you have nor do we have an overview that details what you currently bring to the table, your budget, commitments, study habits, etc.

It's best to fill us in with the info missing and then we can provide you recommendations on how to go about getting to that educational goal. Please fill in the info requested in this link https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...Area-works

It's great asking questions to get the ball rolling, but you need to provide more details for starters... Here's a post I had about YouTubers and another mod answering: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...#pid421643

Great stuff, you can do the TESU BACS and BS/CIS combo for the max transfer of alternative credit and you get two degrees, a BACS and BS CIS (Business), then a masters of your choice later... If you're looking to get things done differently, your alternative option can be the Pierpont BOG AAS with an emphasis of your choice, UMPI BAS with a minor of your choice along with 3 classes that can go towards the MAOL, then the UMPI MAOL to finish things off... There are many posts or threads on each of these, plus the plans on the WIKI are there to reference...

Update: Wait, you're in the UK... You can do the 'alternative' option, then be on the 'safe side' and do the OfQual UK Level 6 and 7 in Computer related fields or subjects, you can top it off with a Masters of your choice. If you're looking to get into Business or Management, you can finish the UK Level 8 diploma and you're done... Voila, all under 10K USD!

Thank you for the reply; to clarify, is the BACS and BS CIS under $10k usd or just the alternative option you mention? And what do you mean by "safe side"? Safe as in credits will transfer? Sorry for all the questions. I am not too concerned with getting a management degree (I have enough experience I can be hired easily in management) but as a second degree, it may be worth considering (could be useful to work abroad). My main priority is on computer science, so I think the first option is the best, especially if that's under $10k too.

I really like the look of the excelsior computer science degree, and I think I'll learn more relevant things from it but that looks considerably more expensive unless I've miscalculated. I wasn't able to find any information on that; I think it's a new course.

I don't understand some of these initialisms, do you have a link to them? I can't find the BOG AAS for example.

Apart from threads on the forum, more details about BOG AAS can also be found in the wiki https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC

In addition to reviewing that post, whenever asking or searching for 3 letter words, there is a limitation on the system... That's why you want to search for Pierpont and also review the entire sub forum created for that institution plus other associate degree offerings that are recommended... It's great to ask questions, but you also need to do a simple search beforehand.

Thank you, I meant on the pierpont website (not these forums). For example if you search snhu computer science degree you get to this page https://www.snhu.edu/online-degrees/bach...er-science.

Using search with 20 year old software is painfully slow, but noted I will look through some old threads and see if I can find the page on the pierpont website for a computer science degree.

BOG AAS stands for Board of Governors Applied Sciences Associate’s degree. It is essentially a general studies associate’s degree where you can choose an area of emphasis, like Information Systems. Pierpont doesn’t have computer science bachelor’s degrees. Like BJ explained, this associate’s is used to ladder up to the UMPI BAS degree with a minor (bachelor’s of applied science degree). The link Tomas posted to the wiki will be far more helpful in explaining the BOG AAS and areas of study, but here’s the link to the BOG on the Pierpont website: https://www.pierpont.edu/academics/assoc...governors/
